Since one roll is driven and the other is passive, there is generally no strict requirement on the difference in roll diameter between the upper and lower rolls, and the rolls can be configured freely and conveniently. Conducive to the management of rollers and roller systems. But there are also shortcomings. When the steel belt accelerates and decelerates, especially when it is stopped in an emergency, the large moment of inertia of the lower roller may cause some very fine scratches on the surface of the steel belt.
 
Double-drive mode, the upper and lower rollers are driven by two motors of the same power separately and at the same time, and there is no passively following roller. The development of modern control technology has been very perfect, which can ensure the absolute synchronization of the line speed of the upper and lower rollers, without scratches on the surface of the steel plate, and the surface quality is better. But on the other hand, the dual transmission has higher requirements for the management of the grinding rollers and the roller system: the rollers need to be ground in pairs, the diameter difference between the upper and lower rollers is generally not more than 5mm, and the rollers are generally used in pairs and cannot be matched with each other; In addition, the actual diameter of the smoothing roller must be accurately measured and input into the computer for identification control. In short, although the dual-drive method is technologically advanced, it requires a high level of management and a high level of technical proficiency for the rolling machine.
